Bice Asia's approach

.
The aim of the Bice Delegation for Asia is to promote the integral growth of the most deprived children and ensure the application of their fundamental rights, recognized in the UN CRC which has been ratified by all countries in Asia.

Encourage local initiatives, projects and programmes
In the field, Bice Asia supports local initiatives, projects and programmes in partnership with local partners, based on an agreed philosophy and set of objectives. It supports strategies which promote the family and the community as the key to prevention and recovery, and build on and support existing resources and capacities.

Support for network and exchange
The Bice Delegation for Asia acts as a platform for exchange and reflection between its members and partners. It coordinates small-scale workshops, conducts capitalisations, issues publications and develops training programmes, all of which focus on positive approaches that have been identified as important for the prevention of and recovery from sexual abuse and exploitation. This supporting network is a means to recognise the nature of some concerns, to confirm good practices and create momentum and enthusiasm by learning about new ideas and initiatives. It is also a way of continuing to challenge and review the effectiveness of the practice.

Lobbying for political commitments and changes across the region
Finally, thanks to the experience of its members and partners on the field, and using the links developed through working together in effective partnerships and networks and maximising information and strength in numbers, Bice Asia works to establish regional alliances and joint strategies to lobby for political commitments and changes in the region, in collaboration with Bice's Permanent Representation in Geneva.

Our action in the field is guided and underpinned by two underlying considerations:

  • Children have rights, which are enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Bice believes taking a Children's Rights Based Approach empowers people to demand justice as a right, and not as charity.
  • Children, adults and communities have the capacity for to draw upon inner resources to react in creative ways to difficult situations. Resilience is seen as a critical component of addressing the rights of children and is promoted at every stage and in every way throughout our projects.
